Employment Specialist

The Arc of Evansville is currently seeking a full-time Employment Specialist!

Are you looking for a change? Looking for a career that will make an impact on a day-to-day basis? The Employment Specialist will assist individuals with disabilities to obtain and maintain employment in the community.

The Employment Specialist will be responsible for developing individual Discovery plans, job development plans and Employment Support Retention Plans for assigned individuals through coordination with Vocational Rehabilitation, potential employers, the Employment Specialist, and other involved individuals. This coordination includes the hiring, training and necessary on-going support activities needed for individuals with disabilities to maintain employment. The Employment Specialist will also be responsible for assisting and supporting assigned individuals in learning job duties and good work habits, developing positive relationships with employers and co-workers as well as assisting with establishing employment related supports outside the human service system.

Pay: $17.00/hour

Job Duties:

  • Conducts self professionally with truth, accuracy, fairness and responsibility. Commits in daily practice the Code of Conduct and Core Values which includes respect, integrity, commitment, recognition and excellence to the individuals receiving services and to others.
  • Provides clients with on-the-job training and employment related supports in order to retain employment, including any necessary job adaptations or accommodations.
  • Conducts ongoing reviews of supported employee’s performance including the satisfaction of the employer.
  • Completes and submits all required documentation per specifications of the Manager of Community Job Link.
  • Meets productivity minimum of 85% billable hours (34 hours per 40 hours a week) and placement requirements as determined by the Manager of Community Job Link.
  • Completes and submits all required documentation required to meet Vocational Rehabilitation, BDDS, Medicaid Waiver standards and any other funding or regulatory source requirements.
  • Maintains client files in accordance with the agency’s Record: Maintenance, Retention and Transfer Policy and Procedures. Assures that documents are filed on a daily basis along with regular communication with VR counselor.
  • Maintains satisfaction of persons receiving services including employers, IDT members, VR staff and BDDS staff as evidenced by results of satisfaction surveys
  • Conducts job site task and culture analyses and assesses compatibility to assure good job matching.
  • Provides education and consultation to local employers. Makes recommendations to businesses regarding job structuring and job carving.
  • Facilitates natural supports and positive relationships between the person served and co-workers and supplements supports as needed.
  • Assures that efforts are undertaken to implement the individual choices and preferences of each person assigned.
  • Communicates and interacts with all significant people chosen by persons served to ensure successful employment.
  • Regularly seeks feedback and input from customers. Responds to customer concerns in a consistent, timely and professional manner.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job

Minimum qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation, social work, special education, or related field preferred.
  • Significant experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in the human service field helpful.
  • Good computer, oral and written communication skills as well as time management skills.
  • Must be able to work as a contributing team member.
  • Friendly and approachable demeanor
  • Ability to work daily with clients who exhibit potentially aggressive behavior.
